Moving Companies Checklist: 3 Facts To Include on Your Moving Agenda

By Rachelle Onifelli

Are you changing to a new residence? The following moving clues are to be taken heed of.

Here is your moving checklist.

Choosing A Mover:

The very first thing that you should do in the moving process is to choose your mover. Call various good agents, ask them to survey your home and give an estimate to you. Be sure to see if there are separate packing charges before you have the movers do the packing. If your company is covering the costs of your move, let your agents know to see what they can do.

Shop around and compare the prices and services each mover offers. You should sign contractual papers only after you have a good idea about each section.

Be Aware How Your Tax Returns Will Be Affected:

Ensure that you keep all the documents pertaining to your move safely. When you file your federal income tax returns, you will need them. You can also get receipts that show how much your old clothing is worth, so you can donate it to charity. You will need them to apply for tax deductions.

Relocating With Kids:

If you have children, arrange for a farewell party for your children and their friends. Make sure that you pack your kids' toys in the same boxes so that your children can find them once you've moved into your new home.

Additional Tips:

When you change addresses, you should notify the post office as soon as possible. Also, ensure that you notify your friends, relatives, banks, and other utility services such as phone, water, etc. about your movement. It is important to book travel and lodging arrangements in advance so that you and your family don't get left out in the cold.

Make sure that all last minute things are done before you leave. Leaving a place in a good presentable condition can help you save on cleaning costs later.
