Home Makeover Sprucing Up Your Home

By Rochel Givhan

Most home owners are opting to home makeover instead of buying a new home, especially in today's economic downturn. Sprucing up your home and making it feel as if the owner is living in a brand new home by doing a home makeover, does make economic sense. Most importantly, it gives pride and the feeling of accomplishment to the homeowner once the makeover is done.

Now, there are many ways to make a home makeover a splash. It's probably best to look at the home makeovers that actually bring the most value back to you as the homeowner. The number one home makeover value creator is the kitchen. The reason why is because while it may be the man who finds the home (ha), it is the woman who buys the home. A nice, clean and new kitchen will set a woman's heart aflutter and set the stage for the rest of the house.

Bathrooms is another big home makeover value creator, next to the kitchen. Who would want to use a dingy, dark and colorless bathroom? So, to make a home makeover a splash, adding colors to them would be a great idea.

Home makeovers are not easy. Having been through several home makeovers, I can honestly tell you that they are disruptive, time consuming and pretty stressful. But, if you do plan to do the undertaking, the rewards will certainly outweigh the downsides. It's very important to follow a few simple steps to ensure that you get the right home makeover value and quality.

First, look to get an expert to help you with your home makeover. Unless you are a contractor or handy person a home makeover is not something to take on lightly. For example, adding kitchen cabinets requires a lot of precise measuring. It also requires knowledge of how to hang the cabinets. These are not light weight items and if you incorrectly install them, they could easily fall off once items are put into the cabinets.

Let's also discuss crown moldings. These are terrific home makeover projects. Crown moldings really give a class look to a home. It has that feeling of luxury and upscale quality. However, they are tough to measure and align correctly. Why? Because where the intersection of the two moldings connect at corners is a little tricky. Cut the wrong way and they won't line up properly. That would be a disaster.

Replacing worn out carpets with hardwood floors is another amazing home makeover project. Two good things about having a hardwood floors are, they give a good feeling under your feet and they also give a feeling of luxury. You do not have to put hardwood floors everywhere in your home though, so you should follow a few tips. You should select access points that could really add flair to your home. You should also consult a person who has knowledge about hardwood floors, ask the person if hardwood floors are best for your home.

Whether you decide to do it yourself home makeover or get a professional involved, just remember two things. It can be a tremendously rewarding project, but it will also be a lot of work and require a lot of patience.
