Closet Organization Ideas

By Ava C Conner

Before constructing your closet organization plan, you have to cope with the current mess in your closet. It's time to take everything out and sort and purge. First, get rid of everything that you just no longer wear. If you haven't worn it in over a year, do you actually need to have it? Also, get rid of garments which no longer fit. Hanging on to clothes that you just think you may wear again some day is a good way to completely clutter up your closet. You may need to think about bins for out of season clothing.

It's best to create a design and stick to it before going out to purchase your new storage system. It becomes too simple to leave the shop with way more than you would ever need if you don't have a plan. Now that your closet is clean and you have determined what you are going to allow to stay, decide how best to organize it. Do you want shelving, added hanging space, a place for your shoes? You really need to bear in mind what is best for you and then make a decision on a system that will accommodate your needs.

Now that you have taken the time to declutter and organize your closet, take the time to keep it organized. It is very easy for your closet to become disorganized again. You've got to make an effort to maintain your new closet. Shoes have a place now, make sure they go there.

If a drawer system is part of your design, make certain clothes go straight into their drawers immediately after washing. When seasons change and you start to rotate clothes, be sure to put out of season clothing into your storage bins. If you ignore this step you will only invite clutter, which is able to set you back on the path to a cluttered closet.

A clean, well organized closet will help you in more ways than you can imagine. Not only will you feel peaceful when going into your closet, but you'll never have to search anxiously for a misplaced shoe or a certain top that you must have.
